“All Quality Clubs, Everyone Involved”

Spring Training – “The Global Village”
ROTARY CLUB LEADERS: WE LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU NEXT SATURDAY AT SPRING TRAINING!
James Sprunt Community College, Kenansville, on Saturday, April 8th, 9am – 12:50pm: Just 230 minutes packed with Rotary info. You will see the Full Belly Video, participate in “The Perfect Rotary Club” meeting, understand our district’s connection with the rest of the world through a multi-media show courtesy of Google Earth, and much more! Break-outs include practical training for secretaries, treasurers, community service chairs, and membership chairs. The RI Secretary Manuals will be distributed at that time. SEE YOU THERE!

Rotary Club Presidents
As you plan for your year of service, now is a good time to review requirements for the Presidential Citation and the Star Club Recognition. These are excellent tools to motivate our Rotarians to achieve the vision of “All Quality Clubs, Everyone Involved”. I would be delighted to visit each of your clubs this spring to recognize you for these achievements.

Please note that the Planning Guide For Effective Rotary Clubs and the Club Inventory are due May 31, 2006. For those of you who have not yet sent in your club’s The Rotary Foundation Fund Development Club Goal Report Form, please do so right away. Your Assistant Governors stand ready to help you with these forms.

Group Study Exchange to Japan
Thank you to those leaders who have been recruiting GSE candidates from the medical and health care professions to go to Japan October 9 to November 8, 2006. However, since we want a GSE team that represents the entire district, we are extending our deadline for applications to April 26, 2006.

We are searching for non-Rotarian professionals, ages 25 to 40. Your Rotary club can sponsor a young person and change someone’s life in your community. Please participate. Submit applications to District Outbound GSE Chair Beth Steelman, 910-762-6417 or bwhite16@earthlink.net.

Rotary International Resource Groups
RI President-elect Bill Boyd has asked the Governors for 2006-07 to appoint Resource Group Chairs for the Presidential Emphases Health and Hunger, Water Management, and Literacy. These problems affect the entire world, but they also greatly affect the people living right here within the boundaries of our own district. Our chairs are available to help educate you on the problems and how you can get involved.

I am delighted to announce the appointment of our Resource Group Chairs:
· Health and Hunger – Lori Goodell of the Wilmington Rotary Club is the regional development officer for the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina.
· Water Management – Kynn Johnson who serves as International Service chair for the Morehead City Noon Rotary Club has lead his club’s efforts in addressing problems in the Tsunami stricken countries.
· Literacy – Keith Clayton of the Fayetteville Lafayette Rotary Club is the Basic Skills (Adult Literacy) Coordinator at Fayetteville Technical Community College.

District Trainer 2006-07 Bob Stinson will be developing a Speaker’s Bureau roster for your use! We expect to present to you with a roster that will reflect the caliber of Rotary leader that you see here. Please make use of our District Speakers Bureau.

Congratulations to the Fayetteville Rotary Club
Monday evening, the Fayetteville Rotary Club celebrated William P. Lowdermilk Student Achievement Awards night, honoring past president Bill Lowdermilk who passed away last year. Because of his generosity, the Rotary club will award scholarships every year totaling over $30,000 to eight Methodist College students nominated for their selfless giving (”Service Above Self”) and their high ethical values.

Ambassadorial Scholars
The deadline for submitting applications for Ambassadorial Scholarships is June 15, 2006 – to District Scholarship Chair Magda Baggett – 910-487-4931 or mbaggett@nc.rr.com.

And speaking of outstanding scholars –
PDG Russ LaBelle has been in touch with Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar Andrien Lopez who just graduated from her Masters program in Chile. Adrien is now working with the International Standards Organization working on a new international social responsibility standard to be presented in Portugal this May. We can be proud of the investment we made in Adrien.

See you at SPRING TRAINING!
See you at the DISTRICT CONFERENCE, Kinston, NC, April 21-23!

I look forward to serving with you in the year ahead.

Lead the Way!
