Full Belly Chair Jay Tervo reports on: Progress on the Full Belly Project in Uganda
The Full Belly Project shipped a container to Kampala Uganda for a project with 20 Ugandan Rotary Clubs. The container left Wilmington a month ago and currently is in Mombassa, Kenya, awaiting final transport to Uganda. The shipment contains 32 finished machines, 22 sets of fiberglass molds, and 150 metal kits – everything needed to place the machines in 150 villages. With 1,000 and 2,000 people per village, this project can have an impact on a very large number of people! Jay Tervo and Jock Brandis will fly to Uganda within the month to assist in training the 20 teams of Rotarians on how to build and operate these machines.
Jay says “I want to thank those clubs which have already signed on to sponsor this District wide project, and invite all of those who are interested in a representative from The Full Belly Project coming to speak at your club to please e-mail me at jtervo@coastalnc.net. We have a very interesting 13 minute film (complete with footage of us demonstrating the machine to President Jimmy Carter) that makes a great program.”

Request from Past RI Director Ken Morgan
Need for ambulances in Kerala, India
Past RI Director Ken Morgan asks that our Rotary clubs consider funding a World Community Service project with District 3210 in Kerala, India. District Governor G.A. George wants to establish a Trauma Care project to include 3 ambulances at a cost of $15,555 per ambulance. District 3210 will contribute $11,666 toward the project. RI Director Ken was there and can attest to both the need and the commitment of the District 3210 Governor to this project. DG George is an orthopedic surgeon and aware of the great needs of his district. If you would like to participate, contact me or contact DG George at gageorge1@hotmail.com.

Rotary Foundation Thought of the Week
Brought to you each week by PDG Bevin Wall, District Rotary Foundation Chair; and reproduced courtesy of www.rotary.org
This week’s Rotary Foundation Thought is about the Permanent Fund.
One of the many ways to support The Rotary Foundation is by including it in your estate plans. Many other Rotarians have, enabling our Permanent Fund to grow and providing long-term stability for Foundation programs. Arch C. Klumph, who conceived the idea of our Foundation in 1917, said it best: “We should look at the Foundation as being not something of today or tomorrow, but think of it in terms of the years and generations to come. Rotary is a movement for the centuries.”
Our investment in time, talent, and financial resources is an investment in making the world a safer and healthier place for our children and our grandchildren.
