“Rotary Shares” — Rotary International (2007 - 2008)

UPDATE: The new Rotary District 7730 website has launched. However, we are still working behind the scenes to maximize your user—experience of this site. If you encounter broken links be sure to let us know. Please note, a link to the District Database is available on the sidebar of this page. Thanks.

The new website was designed by our 2006—07 District Webmaster and Assistant Governor Nancy Barbee and her partner Amit Karmakar of Sydney, Australia. Together, they formed MindMaker Solutions, a web design company specializing in accessibility and web standards. Nancy formed MMS in 2000 after meeting Amit through mutual friends from London. Nancy met Amit through email and then through video conferencing online. They quickly realized that they shared a passion and philosophy for technology and education. Though they were miles and time zones apart, they have collaborated on many sites proving that technology is a powerful tool to connect those around the globe.

Another connection between Amit and Nancy is their connection to Dhanbad, India, Amit’s original home. The Rotary Club of Dhanbad has partnered with The Rotary Club of Maysville (where Nancy is a member) in the Twin City model and work on this literacy project together.

Thank you, AG Nancy and Amit, for devoting many volunteer hours to the development of this attractive and easy-to-navigate website.

Youth Exchange

District Program Earns Provisional Certification from RI

After extensive work on a plan to meet RI requirements for a safe and effective Youth Exchange program, our district was just awarded “Provisional Certification” from RI for 2006-07. Because of Rotary’s concern for the safety and well-being of its youth exchange participants, Rotary International set a new requirement for its 530 districts. Rotary Districts must now have a system in place for screening and training host families and volunteers who have contact with youth. We have a year to meet our goals so that we can receive full certification by June of 2007. Thank you, Mike Reid, for working on this project with me.

“We Care”, Installment #6

11. Be willing to listen to new ideas.

  • “If we always do what we always did, we will always get what we always got!” Sometimes, our clubs need change.
  • New members bring fresh ideas and perspectives. Let’s not squelch good ideas just because we are more comfortable with the status quo.
  • Rotarians will be a part of the club when their ideas are seriously considered and treated with respect.

12. Get and stay organized.

  • Leaders who organize and plan well will achieve success with meetings and projects and will have members enthusiastic about Rotary.
  • Speakers who take enough time to prepare will have presentations that the members find informative and interesting.

13. Be willing to do ourselves what we expect of others.

  • Good leadership leads by example.
  • We as leaders need to participate in club projects and district events. If we do not attend, it minimizes the importance of the function.
