“Rotary Shares” — Rotary International (2007 - 2008)

Welcome to a new Rotary year!

A hearty congratulations to our District Leadership Team and to the incoming Presidents and leadership of the 48 Rotary Clubs in our district. Our international theme, “Lead the Way”, says it all. Each of us is a leader. Each of us has much to contribute. I am proud of our excellent team of district leaders this year — assistant governors, district officers, and committee chairs. Our district leadership stands ready to support the clubs and the Rotarians of our district. I wish each of you the best of success in 2006—07.

Rotary Leaders: Lead the Way

Give your support EARLY to Our Rotary Foundation! I want to lead by example — so as of July 1st, 2006, I made a $1,000 contribution to The Rotary Foundation. I ask each of my fellow District Leaders — Governors Elect and Nominee, Assistant Governors, District officers and committee chairs — to start the year by giving to The Rotary Foundation in the month of July. You may not want to give $1,000, but give what you can! At the very least, we all need to be Sustaining Members ($100/year). Let’s Lead The Way for our district.

I urge each of you who receive this weekly leadership e-mail to give according to the schedule below:

Month Event
July District Leadership
August Past District Governors (If you hold a district office as well, please give in July.)
September Club Presidents
October Club Officers and Directors
November ROTARY FOUNDATION MONTH — All Rotarians!

Let’s all show support for The Rotary Foundation — the best investment we can make toward the goal of world peace and understanding – and let’s have a banner year for Our Rotary Foundation!

District Leaders: Please use The Rotary Leader to inform our district of your district committee’s goals, events, and achievements for the coming year.

“We Care”, Installment #5

Welcome! Appoint a door greeter at every meeting.

  • Door greeters make the club atmosphere friendly and inviting.
  • Greeters can introduce new members and visiting Rotarians to club members who can then invite them to sit at their tables.
  • New members make great door greeters. It’s a great way to meet people.

9. Remember that our fellow Rotarians are family.

  • Everyone needs to be treated with respect and dignity even though we are not always in agreement. We all want to be in an environment free from fear of embarrassment.
  • Include spouses and significant-others. If we want to attract younger members, we also need to include families.
  • Send notices home — to include the spouse.
  • Be there to support each other in difficult times.
  • Budget for flowers and cards.
  • When Rotarians miss several meetings, call them, ask them how they are doing, and tell them that we miss them.
  • The most important message: “How can we be of support and assistance to you?”

10. Develop Rotary leaders

  • Prepare your officers and directors. Make sure they know their roles. Communicate your plans to your leadership team.
  • Conduct regular board meetings. Develop and distribute the agenda beforehand. Keep good minutes for follow-up next month.
  • Groom your successors. Involved your officers and directors in your planning and your decisions.
  • Recommend club members who are candidates for District 7730 officers to the District Governor and Assistant Governor.

Lee and I wish you and your families a wonderful 4th of July holiday!

Lead the Way!
