Monday Morning - March 20
March 19th, 2006 in Monday Morning“All Quality Clubs, Everyone Involved”
To the Presidents-elect 2006-07
Copies to Assistant Governors, District Leadership Team, Council of Governors
Presidents-elect, thank you for the commitment that each of you has made to your club by attending PETS this weekend. I hope you enjoyed the plenaries, discussion groups and our extraordinary speakers; and I hope that you had a chance to meet and exchange ideas with many of the 336 Presidents-elect in attendance.
Many thanks to our very able team of Assistant Governors for your participation and leadership this weekend; to Lee Dixon for your excellent job in leading session #1 on “Roles and Responsibilities” and to PDG Johnny Robertson for giving us a glimpse of our Membership Enrichment Program to be held this September.
Presidents-elect, this weekend should not be the last time you refer to the PETS Manual and materials that you received. Please take time to go over what you learned and refer to the information throughout your year, particularly the District Resources information in Tab #3. If you have not already started to plan for your year, start now! The better you do in planning your year, the better your year will be.
Thank you for your enthusiastic endorsement of our proposal that each Rotary club contribute $10 per member toward our effort to improve District Conference and make it more affordable for our Rotarians. As I had indicated, the funds will be used to cover registration and materials, Friday evening shrimparoo, and Saturday lunch for all Rotarians who register in advance for the 2007 District Conference. We will also use the funds to bring in a high profile keynote speaker.
As you prepare your budget, please find a way to budget the District Conference contribution without adding the $10 to the dues of your members. As we recommended, one way would be to cancel your meeting during the week of district conference and declare it District Conference Week. The money you save on your meal that week can be applied to this fund.
Speaking of district conference, I urge you to attend the 2006 District Conference to be held in Kinston on April 20 – 23 and to encourage your fellow Rotarians to attend as well. This is an excellent time to meet Rotarians from around the district and to become better prepared to lead your club. I look forward to seeing you there!
Spring Training – “The Global Village”
Please invite your secretary, treasurer and club leadership for 2006-07 to Spring Training at James Sprunt Community College, Kenansville, on Saturday, April 8th, 9am – 12:50pm: Just 230 minutes packed with Rotary info. You will see the Full Belly Video, participate in “The Perfect Rotary Club” meeting, understand our district’s connection with the rest of the world through a multi-media show courtesy of Google Earth, and much more! Break-outs include practical training for secretaries, treasurers, community service chairs, and membership chairs. The RI Secretary Manuals will be distributed at that time. Flyer is attached.
Group Study Exchange to Japan
Reminder – We are currently searching for young people, non-Rotarians, ages 25 to 40, from medical and healthcare related professions. The GSE Team will leave for Japan on October 9 and return on November 8, 2006. Your Rotary club can sponsor a young person and change someone’s life in your community. Please participate. We want a GSE team that represents the entire district.
The Rotary Foundation Fund Development Club Goal Report Form
For those of you who did not turn in the form at PETS, please do so ASAP. The Rotary Foundation needs to be informed of our goals.
Presidents Meetings – Planning Guide For Effective Rotary Clubs
Please attend your area Presidents-elect meeting with your Assistant Governor and complete the “Planning Guide For Effective Rotary Clubs” by May 31 so that I can have them before I go to the RI Convention in Copenhagen. I would like to be well prepared for my visit with your club this summer.
Pictures
I will be uploading the individual pictures that were taken of you onto the District Database later this week. If you currently have a picture on the database and you do not want me to replace it with the new one, please e-mail me ASAP and let me know. Many thanks to DG Phil Crawford for your photographic services.
I look forward to serving with you in the year ahead.
Lead the Way!
