Monday Morning - March 5
March 5th, 2007 in Monday MorningBack from India!
The Polio Plus National Immunization Day and the Water Project were amazing experiences! India’s people were gracious and hospitable and it was a joy to experience a culture so different from our own. It was truly a life-altering experience. That said, I’m delighted to be back home in our district and with our Rotarians. I want to thank Dave and Magda Baggett and Jo Barrow for sharing the experience with me. There will be stories and pictures in the March edition of The Rotary Leader, coming soon to a computer near you.
The Rotary Foundation
Having just returned from India, I have much more of an appreciation for the good works of The Rotary Foundation than ever before. It is the duty of every Rotary club to help our communities, but we also need to acknowledge that the world is getting smaller. What affects the world also affects us. We, as Rotarians, should be proud of what Rotary has accomplished in the near eradication of polio. We are on “the last push” to eradicate polio in the four remaining countries, including India. We look forward to the day when the world is polio free – thanks to The Rotary Foundation.
I therefore want to challenge our Rotary club presidents to continue to serve your communities, but also to raise as much money as you can for The Rotary Foundation. There is so much more that we need to do to improve literacy, eradicate disease and hunger, and bring clean water to the world. The world will be a better place because of your efforts.
Rotary Against Drugs Speech Contest a Great Success!
I heard from a number of Rotary leaders that the caliber of the speeches was much better than in previous years. Our young people have made us proud! The winners of the RAD speech contest were: First Place – Peter Pyo; Second Place – Katherina Delgado; Third Place – Erica Obrien; Fourth Place and alternate – Tyler Griffin.
My appreciation goes to Bill Goodwin for his leadership and hard work in chairing the contest. Many Rotary leaders have told me that Bill did an exemplary job. I just received an e-mail from Bill. Bill wishes to thank a number of Rotary leaders: DGE Wilson Ray, Assistant Governor Mark Lynch, and Assistant Governor Kay Gresham for serving as judges, District Treasurer Joe Pascal for his support in having the prize money ready, Eddy Votra for helping with refreshments, and Ms. Charla Farmer of the Newport Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary for serving as timekeeper. Thank you Rotary leaders!

Rotary Foundation Thought of the Week
Brought to you each week by PDG Bevin Wall, District Rotary Foundation Chair; and reproduced courtesy of www.rotary.org
This week’s Rotary Foundation Thought is about meeting your personal financial objectives while supporting the humanitarian and educational programs of your Rotary Foundation.
Rotarians make the Foundation’s worldwide programs possible with generous and regularoutright contributions. While charitable giving is its own reward, you may be pleased to learn that your gifts can often be tailored to meet a variety of personal and financial goals as well. In some countries, donating a capital asset such as stock securities and real estate may provide you with additional tax benefits.
To learn more about how you can help The Rotary Foundation through effective gift planning, visit www.rotary.org or e-mail: EveryRotarianEveryYear@rotaryintl.org.
For more information on giving or program participation, contact PDG Bevin Wall District 7730 Rotary Foundation Chair at Bevin@RLI33.org.
