Monday Morning - March 6
March 5th, 2006 in Monday MorningDear Rotary Presidents-elect for 2006-07,
I want to thank you for the commitment that each of you has made to your Rotary Club to attend PETS on March 17th — 18th and to LEAD THE WAY in your community in the year ahead.
In the interest of providing you with ongoing support and communication from your district, I plan on sending you a weekly letter which will arrive at your computer first thing each Monday morning. Feel free to respond to my letters with club news, questions, or comments on how the district can better support you in your service to your club — jaykapner@gmail.com.
I am pleased to announce that Lee Dixon of the Morehead City Noon Rotary Club has been selected to be the Group Study Exchange (GSE) Team Leader to District 2690, Japan. Lee began his affiliation with Rotary as a GSE Team Member to Japan in 1996. After joining Rotary, Lee served many years as District GSE chair. He currently serves as District Trainer, will serve as Assistant Governor for Area 1 in 2006-07, and is slated to serve as District Governor in 2008-09. An architect, Lee has also been an EMS and EMT instructor.
To build our GSE Team, we are searching for people between the ages of 25 and 40 from medical and healthcare related professions. The GSE Team will leave for Japan on October 9 and return on November 8, 2006. Please participate in this exciting program by identifying and sponsoring a young person in the healthcare field to serve on the GSE exchange with Japan. Please consider changing someone’s life in your community.
If you were at the District Governor’s Official Visit this past summer, I have already had the opportunity to meet with you about our proposal to have each Rotary club to contribute $10 per member toward our effort to improve District Conference and make it more affordable for our Rotarians. The funds will be used to cover registration and materials, the Friday evening shrimparoo, and Saturday lunch for all Rotarians who wish to attend the 2007 District Conference. We will also use the funds to bring in the high profile keynote speaker that many of you suggested would attract more Rotarians to the conference. These proposals are normally voted on at the business meeting of District Conference. However, since we will have all of our clubs represented at PETS, we will vote on this proposal there. I would like your support in making our District Conference more affordable and attractive to the majority of our Rotarians and in helping to bring a high quality District Conference to you in 2007 and in years to come.
Attached is The Rotary Foundation 2006-07 Fund Development Club Goal Report Form. Please get together with your club leadership, complete the form, and bring it to PETS with you. The Rotary Foundation is the best investment that you can make toward the goal of improving the world and bringing about world peace and understanding. Please be as generous as you can and please note that our district goal is a minimum of $100 per member.
Also, please bring your appointment calendar with you to PETS. We would like for the Rotary club Presidents-elect in each area to choose a mutually convenient time when you can meet together with your Assistant Governor. The purpose of meeting together will be to exchange ideas and to explore opportunities for collaboration — a key ingredient for club quality!
I look forward to seeing each of you at PETS and to serving with you in the year ahead.
Lead the Way!
