Monday Morning - November 20
November 19th, 2006 in Monday MorningContributions for Riegelwood Tornado Disaster
Thank you to the Swansboro and Shallotte Rotary Clubs! A team of Rotarians from the Swansboro Club were in Riegelwood on Saturday with $600 worth of baby food and another $400 in Wal-Mart Gift Cards to be used for medication and clothing. The Swansboro club has raised at least an additional $2,800 toward the Tornado Disaster Fund! Thank you for your generosity!
The Shallotte Club contributed $500 toward the fund and is working on more! Make checks out to “Wesley UMC Tornado Fund” and mail them to me, or to: PO Box 116, Riegelwood, NC, 28456. If mailed directly, please inform me of your contributions.
District Designated Funds
$80,000 in Rotary Foundation Funds are Available!
We challenge each of the 8 areas in District 7730 to start work on the development of a World Community Service Project. We challenge the Assistant Governor of each area to meet with area Presidents and Presidents-elect and come to a consensus on a project within your area. The next step is to establish contact and agreement with the district where the project will occur. The district requires that each project be eligible for a Rotary Foundation Matching Grant.
The District will fund your project with $10,000 of Rotary Foundation District Designated Funds (DDF). We will also assist your area in applying for an additional $10,000 Rotary Foundation Matching Grant. This gives you a $20,000 project. It is not necessary for our clubs to contribute. Matches from the other country are not required, although some stake in it by the other country should be encouraged.
We would be happy to give you ideas on getting started. For further information, contact Rotary Foundation chair Bevin Wall or me. With projects worth $120,000, we can make a real difference in the world! So, let’s get started now!
Over $170,000 pledged
400 at the Rotary Foundation Events!
Thank you to our Rotarians, Rotary partners, and Rotary alumni who attended the five area-wide Rotary Foundation events. There was a tremendous representation from many of our Rotary clubs. The “round robin” sessions conveyed valuable information about The Rotary Foundation — our Charity — in a way that was inspirational, fast-paced, and fun!
As a result of the events and through the generosity of our Rotarians and partners, over $170,000 was pledged to the Rotary Foundation Permanent Fund through wills and estate planning.
Thank you to Rotary Foundation (TRF) Chair Bevin Wall, TRF Annual Funds Chair Nancy Barbee, TRF Permanent Funds Chair Pam Wall, and to our very able Assistant Governors for planning these excellent events. Thank you to the GSE Team just back from Japan, Ambassadorial Scholar Mohammad Aminul Karim, and to our Rotary Foundation Alumni and specialists for leading the “round robins”.

Rotary Foundation Thought of the Week
Brought to you each week by PDG Bevin Wall, District Rotary Foundation Chair; and reproduced courtesy of http://www.rotary.org
This week’s Rotary Foundation Thought is about Polio Plus Partners.
PolioPlus Partners was created in 1995 to allow Rotarians in polio-free countries to partner with Rotarians in polio-endemic countries by providing support for National Immunization Days and other critical activities. Over US$33 million has been contributed to more than 400 projects since then, yet there is still a need today. The Partners program allows Rotarians to choose a project of interest by reviewing and selecting from the Open Projects list available on the Rotary website. These projects support our fellow Rotarians in the final battles against polio. Let’s consider giving them our support.
For more information on giving or program participation, contact PDG Bevin Wall District 7730 Rotary Foundation Chair at Bevin@RLI33.org.
