“Think Caribbean” Twin Club Project

Many Rotary clubs within Zones 33 and 34 (southeastern US) are twinning with clubs in the Caribbean.  This is making the clubs in the Caribbean feel that they are now fully a part of our Zones.  I encourage all clubs in our district to twin with a Caribbean club.

The goals are as follows:

  • To emphasize Rotary service and friendship
  • To establish a long term relationship with another
  • To enhance understanding of another culture within our Zones
  • To provide assistance to one another as needed between the 2 clubs.

The twinning process is simple:

  • Go to the “Think Caribbean” website - www.thinkcaribbean.org
  • Go to “Forms” and download the “Mainland form” and complete it.  When returned, the clubs will be twinned.
  • Projects can then be developed, club to club, with an open process of communication.
  • The cost to your club at this point is nothing.  It starts with communication.
  • For further information, contact “Think Caribbean” Chair PDG John T. Capps at jcapps4102@aol.com .

District 7730 contributes $5,000 of DDF to Caribbean Satellite Phone Project

When there is a hurricane in the Caribbean, the first structures to go down are the cell phone towers.  This means that there is no way for people to communicate with one another and to work together to overcome the disaster.  We have been asked by the Rotary Clubs in the Caribbean to contribute funds for satellite phones which can operate independently of an infrastructure.  This will be essential in the disaster response effort during the hurricanes that hit the Caribbean in years to come.
Our district leaders – DGE Wilson Ray, DGN Lee Dixon, Rotary Foundation Chair PDG Bevin Wall, and I – decided to contribute $5,000 of Rotary Foundation “District Designated Funds (DDF)” to the satellite phones project.  So far, at least $66,000 has been raised toward this project from throughout Zones 33 and 34.  Each satellite phone, including “minutes”, has a cost of $1,100.

Rotary Foundation Thought of the Week

Brought to you each week by PDG Bevin Wall, District Rotary Foundation Chair; and reproduced courtesy of  www.rotary.org

This week’s Rotary Foundation Thought is about becoming a Benefactor.

A Rotary Foundation Benefactor is a person who has notified The Rotary Foundation that he/she has made provisions in their final estate plans, or made an outright gift of US$1000 or more to The Rotary Foundation’s Permanent Fund. Benefactors receive a commemorative certificate, a letter of appreciation and a blue and gold recognition insignia to attach to their Rotary or Paul Harris Fellow pin. A US$1000 gift to The Foundation creates a legacy of helping people lead better lives around the world.

There are over 68,000 Benefactors in the Rotary world today. Are you one?

For more information on giving or program participation, contact PDG Bevin Wall District 7730 Rotary Foundation Chair at Bevin@RLI33.org.
