Sharing Today - July 30
August 2nd, 2007 in Rotary SharesMembership and Extension Month
A reminder to all that August is Membership and Extension Month. Start thinking about the new membership development initiatives your club or district can undertake throughout August to celebrate Membership and Extension Month. Consider scheduling the program topics for each of the month’s meeting to focus on a different facet of membership development, such as:
developing a prospective member information packet.
Mentoring programs for new members.
Increasing club presence in local media.
Put plans in motion that will get you and your club members to attend at least one of the two upcoming Membership seminars to be conducted in our District:
12 September–Jacksonville, NC
19 September–Fayetteville, NC
For more information contact our District Membership Chairman, PDG Johnny Robertson at johnsfuel@earthlink.net or 910-843-5211.

Every Rotarian Every Year (EREY, pronounced ee ray)
Our RI giving goal is that every Rotarian contribute at least $100.00 to the Foundation’s Annual Programs Fund during the year. Many Clubs in the District are adding $25.00 to monthly dues, others are accomplishing this by fundraising, some use matching funds, etc.. Foundation giving is one of the elements of an effective Rotary club. The idea and hope are that every Rotarian will contribute something to our Foundation.
Be Proud, Our generosity Shows–In the past year, Rotarians in our District contributed $224,756.00 to our Rotary Foundation Programs Fund with an outstanding $109.32 average per member. Just think of the magic that this money will perform everywhere as it helps us as Rotarians to “do good in this world.” Don’t let up, keep this magic on the move–for help or more information contact our District Annual Programs Fund Chairman, Assistant Governor Mark Lynch at acoustakid@aol.com or 910-483-1212.
Help us to tell your Club’s Story
Many, many good things are going on in your Clubs–but, only you and your members will know about them unless you share the good news. Help us to spread the word. Our Publicity Chairman, Rotarian Larry Curtis is waiting to hear from you–contact him at larry@curtcom.net or 910-616-8999.
Rotary Foundation Thought of the Week
This week’s Rotary Foundation Thought is about how a Group Study Exchange can make a difference.
A GSE team from the Netherlands was scheduled to visit a district in Indonesia shortly after the tsunami disaster of December 2004. the GSE team members were aware of the damage that had occurred in their host district and embarked on a mission to return home with a project that would benefit tsunami victims. During their visit, they discovered that many Acehnese students were no longer able to support their studies because they had lost homes and families in the tsunami. The GSE team leader launched the appeal to Dutch Rotary Clubs who, through the coordination of the Rotary Club of Bandung in Indonesia, were able to identify deserving Acehnese students that needed support to complete their study programs.
The project, which was created through a GSE relationship will ensure that many students from tsunami-stricken West Java have the resources necessary to realize their dream of obtaining a university degree.
For more information on giving or program participation, contact our District Rotary Foundation Chair, PDG Bevin Wall at Bevin@RLI33.org.
