“Rotary Shares” — Rotary International (2007 - 2008)

August is Membership and Extension Month

Attending district meetings and events is a great opportunity to get members involved in activities beyond your club. At district meetings, like the district membership seminars, members can learn about district issues and meet Rotarians from other clubs. Don’t forget–our district will conduct membership seminars in two locations this year–12 September in Fayetteville and on 19 September in the Jacksonville area (note that this is a change–early plans had 12 Sep in Jacksonville and 19 Sep in Fayetteville).

More coming on these events so mark your calendars now!!!

Change in Member Club Attendance Rules

Effective 1 July 2007, rules for computing member club attendance percentages changed–Specifically it reads: A member must “Attend or makeup at least 50% of Club regular meetings in each half of the year.” Approval of this action can be found at www.rotary.org. Click on the Club-District Support access portal–then click on “2007 Council on Legislation–Report of Action.” Then scroll down to Adopted Enactment 07-14.

From Our District RYLA Chairman, Keith King

By end of August, each club president will receive information concerning RYLA. It is a great idea for each club to have a RYLA Chairperson to coordinate the selection process of delegates. We had 92 delegates to attend RYLA last year and we expect that many or more this year.

District Calendar Update

Club Presidents, log on to our District Web site www.rotary7730.org and list your club’s events and activities. Let us all know what is happening in your areas.

Rotary Foundation Thought of the Week

This week’s Rotary Foundation Thought is about a new volunteer position within Rotary called the Rotary Foundation Alumni Coordinators (RFACs).

These new volunteer coordinators have been asked to encourage Rotary clubs and districts to involve Foundation program alumni in Rotary activities; to urge clubs to consider alumni as potential members of Rotary and as potential contributors to The Rotary Foundation; and to use alumni as effective advocates for the programs of The Rotary Foundation. Alumni include individuals who have been part of a group Study Exchange team or have been Ambassadorial Scholars or Rotary Peace Fellows.

Do any of you know a Foundation alumnus that might be interested in joining Rotary? If so, contact our District Alumni Chairman, Skip Fry at skipfry@wilmingtonmarine.com or telephone 910-371-6625 or our District Foundation Chairman, PDG Bevin Wall at Bevin@RLI33.org.
