Looking To The Future — (News from DGE)

PETS (a seminar for Rotary Club Presidents-Elect) is just around the corner — March 13-15, 2008, Sheraton Greensboro at Four Seasons, Greensboro, NC. Registration deadline is January 24, 2008. Registration can be done online at www.carolinaspets.org.

Several of our clubs in our district do not have Presidents-Elect identified. If your club does not have a Presidents-Elect identified, please do so immediately and contact DGE Lee Dixon as to your selection. Attendance at PETS is required for all Presidents-Elect. Many clubs in our District send their Presidents-Elect (2008-2009) and their Presidents-Elect nominee (2009-2010) and some even send their Presidents-Elects nominee designate (2010-2011).

“Our PETS is considered one of the best in the nation.” For more information please contact DGE Lee Dixon–(Office) 252-247-2127, (Home) 252-240-0118, (Cell) 252-241-1868 or E-mail ldixon@EDApa.com.

District Goals

One of our District Goals for this year is that every Club participate in at least one community and one international project. Hopefully, by now every club is well on the way to reaching that goal. If your Club isn’t, please move quickly to get it done–we’re almost half-way through our Rotary year. If you have questions or if I can help, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

New Posters Promote EREY (Every Rotarian Every Year)

These are free–Use these two colorful posters to help showcase the Every Rotarian, Every Year efforts in your club. One of the posters (18″ x 24″) features several images vividly illustrating how annual gifts to the Foundation help meet humanitarian needs. The other (10″ x 25″) is an image of a child beneficiary of a Foundation project. These posters (959-EN) are available as a pair, free of charge. Order from Publications Order services at RI World Headquarters (tel: 847-866-4600, Fax: 847-866-3276; or E-mail pbos@rotary.org.

Five Things That Would Increase Membership

1. Involvement
2. Meaningful projects
3. Good programs with one program on a Rotary program/service each month.
4. Having fun.
5. Good PR.

Rotary Foundation–100% Club Contribution

Another goal that we would really like to accomplish is that every Club make a contribution to our Rotary Foundation Annual Programs Fund this calendar year. If your club has not contributed, please make arrangements to get it done–contributions must be postmarked before 31 December 2007. For more on how to reach this goal, please contact me or our District Foundation Chair at Bevin@RLI33.org.

December is Family Month

According to our RI President Wilf Wilkinson–”Rotary does so much that is so important in so many ways: providing water to the thirsty, food to the hungry, medical care to the poor and sick, education to the illiterate. It’s been doing that for more than 100 years now. But if we focused all our attention on nothing but that lifesaving and life-altering work, then that work would eventually come to an end. Rotary would die out in a generation if we did not also pay attention to the health of our own organization — our members, our clubs, and those who will join our clubs in the years to come.” (For more from RI President Wilf Wilkinson, see the December Rotarian Magazine).

Did You Know??

The 2008 RI Convention in Los Angeles is well on its way to becoming a blockbuster event. As of early September, 2,879 Rotarians, friends, and others in the family of Rotary had signed up to attend — more than the number registered for either the Salt Lake City or San Antonio convention at the same point in the year. Already, registrants include individuals from 74 countries and geographical areas.

RYLA Delegate Deadline

Applications are due to our RYLA Chair, Keith King on 21 December. If you have questions, contact Keith by E-mail at kking@monrovia.com.

The Weekly Rotary Foundation Thought

This week’s Rotary Foundation Thought is about participating in Foundation programs in our community and across the globe.

We make our annual contributions to The Rotary Foundation knowing that 50% of that gift will come right back to our district in three years to be used for humanitarian and educational programs chosen by us. This includes Ambassadorial Scholars, Matching Grants, and District Simplified Grants that may be used for projects in our local community.

The other 50% also benefits our district indirectly, because it is used to fund a variety of programs in which we can and do participate, like our Group Study Exchange Program and Matching Grants. The Rotary Foundation is our Foundation. It is critical that we take ownership of it and do what we can to change and save lives, in our community and across the globe.

For more information on giving or program participation, contact our District Foundation Chair PDG Bevin Wall at Bevin@RLI33.org.
