Sharing Today - December 31
January 1st, 2008 in Rotary Shares“Happy New Year”
Maintain the Standard
The second half of our Rotary year begins tomorrow!!! Lets all make a New Year’s resolution to continue support of our traditional Rotary programs. And above all, be careful, stay safe and return to jobs and other activities healthy and prosperous.
GSE Team to India
Our team left Sunday afternoon for 30 days in India as our ambassadors of goodwill–a good group of Rotarians, family and friends were on hand to wish this “all female”, world-class team off for their trip. We all can keep up with their travels by checking postings on their blog at www.teamindia.wordpress.com.
Consider this to Reenergize your Club Membership
>>Assign a member weekly to give a two minute talk on a topic of Rotary 101.
>>Have a weekly bulletin.
>>E-mail members weekly.
>>Call those who miss more than three meetings in a row.
Club Officer Data for 2008-09
This information was due to Rotary International on 31 December 2007 — however, if your Club has not sent it in, it still is not too late. This information ensures that your club will receive important mailings from RI, including the 2008-09 Official Directory and the Semi-Annual Report (SAR). The data can be updated in one of the following ways:
>>Your current club president or secretary can update 2008-09 club data via the “Update Club Data” link in Member Access on the RI web site at www.rotary.org. This is the preferred way.
>>Your current club secretary can fill out the Official Directory Data Form (PDF) and fax it to 1-847-773-9340 or mail it to: Rotary International/IS220, 1560 Sherman Ave, Evanston, IL 60201-3698.
Remember our Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI)
This first-class, fast-paced, interactive leadership program is designed to refine a Rotarians leadership skills and increase their base of knowledge in Rotary. As you know, one of our District goals this year is that each Club send at least two members to the Institute. Courses are available in Raleigh and North Myrtle Beach during January and February 2008. This is a great way to prepare your Club officers for their upcoming Club duties so check the dates, locations and enrollment procedures at www.rli33.org.
Our Founder, Paul Harris on Peace
“I have no hesitation in saying that world peace would be achieved and made permanent if reared on Rotary’s firm foundation of friendliness, tolerance, and usefulness.” (Message to 1940 RI Convention, Havana, Cuba)
Nathaniel J. Harris, Ambassadorial Scholar
This six-month Cultural Scholar is sponsored by the Morehead City-Lookout Rotary Club. He recently received his assignment and will seek enrollment at the University in Cairo during 2008-09 to study at the Arabic Language Institute in Cairo, Egypt. Congratulations, Nathaniel!!!
The Weekly Rotary Foundation Thought
This week’s Rotary Foundation Thought is about Rotary World Peace Fellowships.
Rotarians have always wanted to do more than just talk about world peace. In 2002, The Rotary Foundation established seven Rotary Centers for International Studies in peace and conflict resolution around the globe. Our Foundation contributions support the best and brightest scholars from a variety of nations as they develop skills and attitudes to prepare them for leadership positions in our increasingly complex world. A recent Rotary World Peace Fellow graduate from Duke University, Bautista Logioco, sponsored by the Rotary Club of La Plata Tribunales, Buenos Aires, Argentina (District 4910), has begun full-time work at the Organization of American States (OAS) in Washington, D.C. as a program officer in the Special Area for the Promotion of Dialogue and Conflict Resolution.
We should remember International Service is an important part of what makes us proud to be Rotarians. The Every Rotarian Every Year effort is an ongoing reminder for all of us to give generously to the Foundation.
For more information on giving or program participation, contact our District Foundation Chair PDG Bevin Wall at Bevin@RLI33.org.
