“Reach For The Stars — Learn About Rotary”

District Rotary Publicity Promotion

Beginning on Monday, 11 February and continuing until 1 June, WECT-TV, Wilmington will air Rotary Publicity Promotion spots across its viewing area. Why not tie this publicity to your Club’s membership drive?? This is a golden opportunity to do it since each presentation will be ended by a suggestion to the viewer that they contact a local Rotary Club or Rotary International.

This could lead to new members — Develop your own “Rotary Elevator Speech.” Speaker Michael Caruso said his is, “Rotary is the best investment I ever made.” For more on membership, contact our District Membership Chair PDG Johnny Robertson at johnsfuel@embarqmail.com.

Our Founder, Paul Harris on Friendship — Friendship is a natural and willing servant. It will contribute generously to your success. There is no reason, ethical or otherwise, why the great power of friendship should not be harnessed to do its part in the world’s work. (The Rotarian, September 1912)

Outstanding Rotary Day at Boys & Girls Home

The annual celebration of Rotary Day at Lake Waccamaw started with a full-house in the Chapel at 11:00 AM, followed by lunch and standing room only at Rotary Cottage as Rotarians and guests arrived from all over to support our young residents. Our District was represented well and we all left the area proud of this wonderful opportunity to serve and with peace at the goodness we’re doing there.

District Speaker’s Bureau

Great Clubs have great meetings and an important part of a great meeting is a good speaker. Our District’s Speaker’s Bureau is a list of Rotary Speakers who have volunteered to visit your Club and speak on a subject of interest to other Rotarians. It was created to provide an easy source of speakers for Rotary Club meetings and over the last year has grown in popularity. We continue to improve the program and recently added additional speakers and subjects. For example, we added PDG John Eller to our list of speakers and his subjects include Fund Raising Projects and The Four Way Test. Check out an updated list of speakers on the Resource Page of the District website www.rotary7730.org. Please send your comments or suggestions to our District Trainer, Bob Stinson at bob@plangoals.com.

The Weekly Rotary Foundation Thought

This week’s Rotary Foundation Thought is about is about a Matching Grant that has changed and saved lives in Jamaica.

Sponsored by the Rotary clubs of St. Andrew, Jamaica and the Oviedo, Florida, this grant provided life-saving medical equipment to the Bustamante Hospital for children (the only children’s hospital in the English-speaking Caribbean), and the Newborn Special Care unit at the University Hospital of the West Indies, which deals with premature newborn babies and babies with special medical needs. Doctors and nurses were trained to use the new equipment. In addition to providing machinery and the equipment, this project refurbished the emergency wing of the Bustamante Hospital. Approximately 500 patients benefit from this project daily. Many lives, namely those of children, will be saved as a result of this project and contributions to the Annual Programs Fund.

For more information on giving or program participation, contact our District Foundation Chair PDG Bevin Wall at Bevin@RLI33.org.
