Sharing Today - July 22
July 22nd, 2007 in Rotary Shares“Reach for the Stars — Learn About Rotary”
History Made
For the first time in our District’s history, this past Rotary year we met and exceeded our goal of $100.00 per member in contributions to our Rotary Foundation’s Annual Programs Fund. In fact, preliminary reports indicate that we actually contributed $109.00 per member. This is a remarkable achievement and one of which all need to be very, very proud. Just think about all the good around this world that this contribution will accomplish. Now, let’s buckle up make an all out effort to repeat or exceed this accomplishment this year.
Membership and Extension Month
August is Membership and Extension Month for Rotarians everywhere. Our District Membership Goal this year is that “Our District have a net gain of one member per club.” That means ending this Rotary year with at least one more member than your Club had on 30 June 2007. Now is the time for all of us to get energized and start an all out effort to get that done. If you need help call me or our District Membership Chair, PDG Johnny Robertson at 910-843-5211– FAX 910-843-8114 or johnsfuel@earthlink.net.
More About Membership
It still isn’t too late to sign up for our RI Presidential Membership Conference in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida on 24 & 25 August. Our Membership Chair, PDG Johnny Robertson can help you with that, too–or you can go to our RI website www.rotary.org. and get the information for yourself. Either way, its a great way to meet with President Wilf and learn first-hand how to improve membership and build a winning team.

Rotary Foundation Thought of the Week
This week’s Rotary Foundation Thought is about Foundation Service Awards.
There are three different Foundation Service Awards.
The District Service Award is given to any Rotarian whose service to humanity deserves to be recognized. The District Governor can award up to 20 of these a year and the recipient is given a certificate.
The Citation for Meritorious Service is awarded by the Trustees to one Rotarian from each district every year. Nominations are solicited from district governors and RI Directors. The Trustees consider these nominations throughout the year until 15 May. A handsome certificate in a walnut frame is sent for presentation to the recipient of this award.
Four complete rotary years after receiving the Citation for Meritorious Service, a Rotarian becomes eligible for the Distinguished Service Award. Because this is the Foundation’s highest service recognition, a recipient’s exemplary service to the Foundation must extend beyond the district level and over an extended period of time. Award recipients receive a cast bronze plaque mounted on a walnut base.
Do you know someone who is worthy of such an honor in our club?
For more information on giving or program participation, contact our District Rotary Foundation Chair, PDG Bevin Wall at bevin@RLI33.org.
