Sharing Today - July 9
July 9th, 2007 in Rotary SharesRotary International Presidential Membership Conference
Now we can all answer the call to serve. On 24 & 25 August 2007, we as leaders are asked to join RI President Wilf Wilkinson in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida to discuss the magic of sharing Rotary. Through plenary sessions along with panel discussions and networking opportunities, we will have a chance to explore opportunities to increase membership and strengthen Rotary. For more information log on to www.6990.org and scroll down to the Presidential Conference link. Or contact our District Membership Chair, PDG Johnny Robertson at 910-843-5211 or E-mail johnsfuel@earthlink.net. Look for more information in our upcoming District Newsletter.
Our District Data Base
Having accurate club information on this site is critical for effective communication with our members, Club leadership and Rotary International. Through this network flows information in many directions that keeps us updated on membership and changes that helps us all to do a better job in managing our Clubs and projects. Although each member has the option of changing their own personal information, it typically is the Club Secretary’s responsibility to maintain the Club data base. Club Presidents, please log on to our District Web-site www.rotary7730.org. and take the time to look at your Club information. I made a cursory review of our 48 Clubs earlier today and found:
- 3 Clubs have the wrong President listed.
- 3 Clubs have no Club Secretary–another is listed but with no contact information.
- 16 Clubs have no Treasurer listed–3 others are listed but with no contact information.
Many, many Clubs haven’t checked the boxes that show which members are PHF or Sustaining members.
As professionals, we can all do better than this. If you have trouble understanding our Web-site or getting logged on, please contact our District Communications Officer, PDG Phil Crawford at telephone 252-527-3139 or E-mail philcuz@earthlink.net.
Club Presidents and Youth Exchange Officers
It is time to begin the “roll-out” of our new Rotary Youth Exchange Program! We are entering a year full of excitement and learning opportunity. Please contact Lori Harris, District Youth Exchange Chairperson, to begin your club’s 2007-2008 Youth Exchange Program. E-mail lharris2006@yahoo.com or telephone 910-409-0202.
Governor’s Official Club Visits will begin in one week
Following are the first two weeks. Presidents, if there is a problem with that date for you or your Club please let me know pronto so we can resolve the date. On that date, please make sure that I am your program. This is the one time of the year that, for most Clubs, I will have the privilege to meet with all your members and officers. Unless we agree on another way, I would like a short meeting with the President and Club Officers immediately following the regular meeting.

Rotary Foundation Thought of the Week
This week’s Rotary Foundation Thought is an update on our Polio Eradication efforts.
Recently, the Advisory Committee on Polio Eradication (ACPE), the global and technical oversight body of the Polio Eradication Initiative, concluded that polio could be eradicated within the next six months everywhere, except in Nigeria, provided adequate financial resources are found and political will is maintained. The World Health Organization further advises that eradication in Nigeria could follow within another 6-12 months. National Immunization Days will be held in all endemic and high-risk countries this spring to help ensure that this important milestone is met.
The PolioPlus Partners Program is currently accepting donations to support these NIDs and will match contributions at US $.50 per dollar donated. More information is available at www.rotary.org.
For more information on giving or program participation, contact our District Rotary Foundation Chair, PDG Bevin Wall at bevin@RLI33.org.
