“Rotary Shares” — Rotary International (2007 - 2008)

“Reach For The Stars — Learn About Rotary”

Early Update — You’re getting this update a few days early because Bobbie and I, with about 20 other District Rotarians, will leave Saturday for the International Convention in LA.

Rotary Membership Will Help You to Grow

Rotary membership will help you grow spiritually, mentally, emotionally, socially, and financially. You will build lifelong friendships, and in times of trouble, illness, and stress, Rotary will provide you a support system. You will be educated on subjects you never would otherwise, and you will have the opportunity to meet and greet other peoples of the world. It will provide you the opportunity to serve, and to belong to an organization that includes in its membership everybody who is anybody. In fact, there are but a few organizations that can marshal the influence and leadership that Rotary represents. Being a Rotarian will just plain make you feel good. (Robert H. Pityo, Rotary Club of Cedar Grove, Cedar Grove, New Jersey)

GSE Team Leaders Selected

The GSE Team Leader Selection Committee considered nine applicants for the positions of Team Leader and Alternate Team Leader for the Group Study Exchanges with District 9220 (Madagascar/Mauritius) and District 2201 (Spain/Canary Islands).

Assistant District Governor Mark Lynch (Fayetteville LaFayette Club) was selected as Team Leader for the Exchange with District 2201; Alternate Team Leader is Vanessa Ervin (Jacksonville Club). Assistant District Governor Peggy Turner (Wilmington West Club) was selected as Team Leader for the Exchange with District 9220. Alternate Team Leader is John Scibal (Morehead City Noon Club).

Congratulations to these four outstanding Rotarians!! It was the considered judgement of the Selection Committee that any of the nine applicants would have been outstanding GSE Team Leaders. Thank you to all who applied.

Now the task is to find and encourage outstanding mid-career professionals, ages 25-40, to apply for GSE Team Membership. Please forward any promising applicants names to our District GSE Chair, Dave Baggett at dbaggett@nc.rr.com. Also, contact Dave if you need more information about the qualifications to be a GSE Team Member.

The Weekly Rotary Foundation Thought

“Rotarians are the heart and soul of Rotary. But our Rotary Foundation is its backbone. The Foundation is what makes so much of our great work possible. The Matching Grants, Humanitarian grants, 3-H Grants, Ambassadorial Scholarships, Group Study Exchanges, Rotary Peace Centers, and the major funding for PolioPlus are all possible through our Rotary Foundation funds.

Rotarians come to Rotary because they want to help make this world a better place. Well, The Rotary Foundation is what helps us do it.

Many Rotarians do not understand that The Rotary Foundation is a separate entity from Rotary. It has its own staff, its own finances, and its own administrative structure. It also receives all of its income separately from Rotary International. That is something that you need to make sure that all Rotarians in your district understand. Their membership dues do not go to our Foundation; only their donations go to our Foundation. That is why it is so important to tell Rotarians about our Foundation’s Every Rotarian, Every Year effort. The Every Rotarian, Every Year initiative is the way we’re going to ensure the long-term health of Rotary and the viability of all the wonderful work that Rotarians do.” (Frank Devlyn, Chairman, The Rotary Foundation Trustees, 2005-06)
