“Rotary Shares” — Rotary International (2007 - 2008)

“Reach For The Stars — Learn About Rotary”

Final Weekly Update

It all started 52 weeks ago when I began, as your Governor, the most interesting and exciting, albeit busiest, year of my life. During this Rotary year I met many, many people who, without Rotary, I would most likely never have met–and for that I will be eternally thankful. Hopefully, in the coming months and years I will have the opportunity to meet those of you who I unfortunately missed this time around.

Early in the year I introduced you to our District Goals and asked you to pitch in and help me to get them accomplished–and you did. I asked you to “Share Rotary” everywhere you went—and nobody hesitated. We started off as a fantastic, well rehearsed team, and worked as one for the entire year. As a result, we’ve had an incredible year and our Clubs, our Neighborhoods, and our International Community are much better places because of the things we did. I offer my most sincere appreciation for all that you did and for permitting me to be your Governor. I will miss it more than I can say. Thanks!

A Word From My Rotary Partner, Bobbie

Wow! What an exciting journey we have been on the past year. My love and gratitude to each of you for allowing us to travel this road of Rotary service. It was indeed a privilege to represent District 7730 everywhere Wilson and I traveled.

Each of you are truly unselfish of your time and talents. Not only as Rotary members but Partners participating and involved as well. Your hospitality and numerous acts of kindness when we visited will be special memories for us. “Most people come into our lives and quickly leave. It is the special few that come in and leave a footprint in our hearts and we are changed forever.” You have been that for us. Thanks for the memories.

A Winning Year For Our Rotary Foundation

As you know, our Rotary Foundation has been a priority this year. In the beginning, we set as a goal to meet or exceed $100.00 average per member to our Foundation Annual Programs Fund. We’re going to exceed $100.00 this year, although we won’t know by how much for about two more weeks. However, reaching that goal didn’t happen by accident–it happened because everyone in our District understands the good things that our contributions do around this world for those people who are unable to help themselves. Our Club Presidents “led the way” in this effort by making sure the message got to those who can make a difference–the Rotarians themselves. From the District Level, the effort was led by our Foundation Chair, PDG Bevin Wall and our Annual Programs Fund Chair, AG Mark Lynch. Their untiring efforts and energy kept us pointed in the right direction and never let us forget the true meaning of “Service Above Self.” For their unselfish contributions we are eternally grateful.

In the middle of April, we offered on a first-come basis a limited number of 40/60 Paul Harris Matches. The match required a $600.00 new money contribution to the Rotary Foundation and the District would donate $400.00 in matching points. This offer was in such demand and was so successful that we quickly exhausted our capability by doing 70 matches with Rotarians across our District. An absolutely exciting experience!!! Thank you Rotarians, for taking this opportunity to help our District and our Rotary Foundation.

Closing Out the Year in Winning Fashion

Our Foundation Chair was asked recently to install the incoming President of the Wilmington-West Rotary Club. While there, he also presented six new Paul Harris Fellowships to Club members and guests. Following is the way we are proud to close our Rotary year–making new Paul Harris Fellows:
