Sharing Today - March 10
March 9th, 2008 in Rotary SharesRI Presidential Citation
As I said last week, one of our District Goals for the year is that every Club receive this Citation. The start point for qualifying is that the Club have a net gain of at least one member from the 1 July 2007 start date. Please let me know pronto if you don’t know your Club’s membership start number and I’ll give it to you. Once past the membership hurdle, the rest of the requirements are fairly easy to accomplish. I need your completed application not later than 1 April–regular mail, FAX, or E-mail will be fine. Please don’t pass on this opportunity to make your club shine.
Remember Membership
Even the simple things can help your club to grow:
>>Ask the people in your church choir.
>>E-mail all club members once a month and encourage them to look for members.
>>Get a list of the people who used to be in the club and invite them back.

Williamsburg, Virginia — History Abounds — Welcome to the 1862 Peninsula Campaign. Here at the Crowne Plaza Williamsburg Hotel at Fort Magruder, you’re in the heart of a fierce battle fought on a rainy Monday in May.
Built on historic ground, the hotel’s location makes it easy to imagine the drama of the Battle of Williamsburg—rain-soaked Confederate soldiers crouching behind their redoubts, flashes of gunfire through the trees, the thud of boots as troops engage the enemy.
There’s much more you can see and experience nearby—but, you must be there to do it!!! Register today for our District Conference on18 & 19 April 2008.
Paul Harris’ Comments on Rotary
If Rotary ceases to be a responsibility and becomes a mere relaxation or pastime, its usefulness will cease. (Message to 1916 RI Convention, Cincinnati, Ohio)
Another District Goal for this year
This one is that every club send at least two Rotarians to the Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI)–has your Club done it??? If not, it isn’t too late to do so. Visit the RLI web site at www.rli33.org and check on the classes that will be presented at a location near you this Spring or contact PDG Bevin Wall at bevin@RLI33.org for more information.
RI Convention 15 - 18 June 2008, Los Angeles, California
RI Convention Special Events — House of Friendship:
Los Angeles is famous for its bustling network of freeways and palm-tree-lined streets. During the convention, you can explore several more in the House of Friendship, located in Los Angeles Convention center. Enter through Main Street to Rotary Town Center Square. From there, walk down the expansive Rotary International Highway and Paul Harris Boulevard to shop and sample food from many ethnic kitchens. Along these streets, ample seating areas allow you to rest and chat with fellow Rotarians.
A stroll along Fellowship Lane leads to many Global Networking Group booths. See how Rotarians are serving their community and having fun at the same time by viewing club and district projects and visiting Secretariat Services. Eleven Internet cafe’s and live performances on two stages will round out your convention experience in the entertainment capital of the world.
The Host Organization Committee is also planning a “concert under the Stars” at the Hollywood Bowl and exciting area tours. Register today for the RI Convention at www.rotary.org. Rotary Against Drugs (RAD)
This year’s multi-District speaking contest will be at 1:00 PM, Sunday, 16 March at Chapel Hill Town Hall. Last year one of our District Contestants won first place–this year we have three outstanding young people competing and we have a great chance to repeat the win. No appointment to attend is needed so plan to show up and support this superb Rotary program. For more information contact our District RAD Chair, Bill Goodwin at billgoo@msn.com.
District Simplified Grants (DSG)
Our District still has money to award to Clubs for community or international projects. A short application and quick approval are the standards for the program. For more information contact our District Foundation Chair PDG Bevin Wall at bevinwall@bizec.rr.com.
The Weekly Rotary Foundation Thought
This week’s Rotary Foundation Thought is about becoming a Benefactor.
A Rotary Foundation Benefactor is a person who has notified the Rotary Foundation that he/she has made provisions in their final state plans, or made an outright gift of $1000.00 or more to The Rotary Foundation’s Permanent Fund. Benefactors receive a commemorative certificate, a letter of appreciation and a blue and gold recognition insignia to attach to their Rotary or Paul Harris Fellow pin. A $1000.00 gift to The Foundation creates a legacy of helping people lead better lives around the world.
There are over 68,000 Benefactors in the Rotary world today. Are you one??
For more information on giving or program participation, contact our District Rotary Foundation Chair PDG Bevin Wall at Bevin@RLI33.org.
