Sharing Today - March 24
March 24th, 2008 in Rotary SharesGSE-India Inbound Team
Our GSE Team from India arrived on time Thursday afternoon at Wilmington Airport. Even their luggage arrived on time with them!!! After a nights rest in Wilmington, Friday morning the team headed for Brunswick county and Area 4 to begin their very busy thirty day schedule of touring our District.
A good group of Rotarians were on hand to welcome our visitors. Please join me and the entire District Leadership team in making them feel at home during their stay and while visiting our Rotary Clubs. If you need information about their schedule please contact our District GSE Chair, DGN Nancy Barbee by E-mail at nbarbee@gmail.com.
RI Presidential Citation
I need your Club’s completed application not later than 1 April–regular mail, FAX to 910-843-8114 or E-mail to bronco549@aol.com will be fine. If your club has a net growth of one new member since 1 July 2007, qualifying for this citation should be easy. Please don’t pass on this opportunity to make your club shine.
Want to Boost Your Club Membership??
Hold a luncheon for community leaders. Let each club member be responsible for inviting a set number of prospective members who are community leaders, and the club could donate the cost of the meal and invitations. Show the six-minute video This is Rotary (449-MU), and bring in a dynamic Rotary leader as a speaker. For more ideas about increasing your Club membership, contact our District Membership Development Chairman, Johnny Robertson at 910-843-5211 or E-mail johnsfuel@embarqmail.com.

Money is still available for clubs that need help in funding a local or international project–a quick approval is guaranteed for applications that meet the simple requirements–for more information about this opportunity, contact our RI Foundation Chair, PDG Bevin Wall at Bevin@RLI33.org.
District Conference — 18 - 19 April–Williamsburg
Please continue to talk about our conference and encourage attendance. We have an exciting and informative agenda in an interesting historical environment. Astronaut Bill McArthur will be our keynote speaker at lunch on Saturday and his presentation about his experiences in space will be an extra special treat. His spouse, Cindy, also with NASA, will talk to us about the emerging and exciting field “Teaching From Space.” She is responsible for this program and does the training of the teachers that actually go into space.

More About our Rotary Foundation
“The Rotary Foundation is not to build monuments of brick and stone. If we work upon marble, it will perish; if we work on brass, time will efface it; if we rear temples they will crumble into dust; but if we work upon immortal minds, if we imbue them with the full meaning of the spirit of Rotary…we are engraving on those tablets something that will brighten all eternity.” (Arch C. Klumph, Founder, The Rotary Foundation)
Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI)
This is one of our most exciting Rotary Leadership adventures. It is a series of fast-paced, interactive, one-day courses offered to refine a Rotarian’s leadership skills and increase their base of knowledge in Rotary. Courses are fun, topical, and geared toward busy business and professional persons who want to be more effective leaders in their vocation and club and more knowledgeable Rotarians. Register now for programs that will be taught this Spring at a location near you. For more information and to get register information visit www.rli33.org or contact PDG Bevin Wall at Bevin@RLI33.org.
Our Founder Paul Harris on Rotary
What is Rotary? What is it all about? Rotarians of many countries arise to make answer, but no two answers are alike. Is there no common accord? Yes, there is one; it is like the rumble of a great organ, the roar of a distant sea breaking on the beach. Beneath Rotary’s many and varied activities, there is the unchanging undertone of goodwill, goodwill, goodwill. On this anniversary, my hope is for the continued advancement of goodwill between men and between nations. I have no higher hope, nor do I know of one. (Paul Harris message on Rotary’s 39th Birthday).
The Weekly Rotary Foundation Thought
This week’s Rotary Foundation Thought is about the SHARE system.
Through SHARE, Rotary districts share in the decision making process by choosing which Rotary Foundation programs they wish to support and participate in. Fifty cents of every dollar contributed to the Annual Programs Fund is returned to the district in the form of District Designated Funds (DDF). DDF can be used by the district and clubs to fund Ambassadorial Scholars, Group Study Exchanges, Matching Grants, and District Simplified Grants. The other half of the funds raised through APF-SHARE, remain in the World Fund for matches to Matching Grants, funding for 3-H Grants and the yearly Group Study Exchange award.
When you make a contribution to the Annual Programs Fund you are helping support worthy Foundation projects all over the world and also in your own community.
For more information on giving or program participation, contact our District Rotary Foundation Chair PDG Bevin Wall at Bevin@RLI33.org.
