Membership Poker

Keep A Poker Face–We called around and couldn’t find anyone who would ante up exact details, but somewhere in New Hampshire, there’s reportedly a membership poker game. Or at least someone posted this suggestion on RI’s Membership Development Best Practices Exchange and credited it to a New Hampshire Club in District 7780. Here’s how they said it worked: The club divided its members into groups, and for five weeks, each group sat at its own table during club meetings. Each club member anted $2.00. When people nominated a new member, they got to draw a card. At the end of the five weeks, the club member holding the best hand won the pot.

The Four-Way Test Still Means Business

Rotary’s gold standard of ethics builds friendships, attracts customers — and helps club members sleep at night. Visit your September edition of Rotarian Magazine–read about how one major Pharmacy chain got hooked on The Four-Way Test and told its employees many years ago that “we use it as a compass around here.”

President Wilf Appoints Youth Services Resource Group

The group aims to provide information and support for Rotary clubs and districts in programs, projects, and activities that serve youth in their communities. RI has three official youth programs: Interact, Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA), and Youth Exchange, by which Rotarians can extend the family of Rotary for years to come. For more visit our official RI website www.rotary.org.

Weekly Rotary Foundation Fundraising Strategy

This Could Work In Your Club–Going once, Going twice: The Vero Beach West club in District 6930 holds a monthly auction: books, camping gear, collectibles, stamps, etc. The item sells and the cash generated by the sale of the item goes to the Foundation in the seller’s name. The person who buys the item gets the item, and has the option to “match” the amount. if they match the amount, the club will then match their match. Therefore, an item selling for $20 generates a Foundation contribution of $20 for the seller, and $40 for the buyer. This has allowed the club to give $355 per capita to the Foundation in 2003-04 and helped them clean out their closets!

Give “Every Rotarian, Every Year” the opportunity to support our Rotary Foundation. For more information on devising a strategy for your club or on district giving or program participation, contact our District Foundation Chairman, PDG Bevin Wall at Bevin@RLI33.org.
