Magda B. Baggett
Serving: Fayetteville,Fayetteville LaFayette,Laurinburg,Red Springs,West Fayetteville
Magda has Bachelors in Sociology and Psychology and a Masters in Human Relations, degrees which have served her well during many years as an Army wife and professional working in the field of human services. She says she is from the “DEEP SOUTH” - was born in Puerto Rico! Fayetteville has been her home for over 12 years this time, but has spent over 20 years total in this area.
She has been Director for International Programs at MC since January 2001. This position gives her not just professional fulfillment, but also the joy of satisfying some of her passions: travel, and learning about people and their cultures. She arguably has the best job at Methodist College! (If they only knew how hard this travel can be!) While wearing her recruiter’s hat, she has visited remote areas like Siberia and beautiful tourist spots in the Caribbean. She has learned to live without her luggage for up to 10 days!
Magda is committed to serving her community through volunteer work. She has worked on the Board of Better Health of Cumberland County for over 10 years and served as its president. She was raised in the family of Rotary and following her father’s example joined the Fayetteville Rotary Club eight years ago. She served as Rotary Centennial President for her Club (2004-2005) and is currently the District Chair for Ambassadorial Scholarships. During her tenure as club president, she spearheaded a project in partnership with a Siberian club to assist an orphanage in Russia. She also initiated a project to assist in funding the Fayetteville Linear Park and will soon dedicate the Cool Spring Overlook funded by her club. She recently spent a month in Mexico leading a Rotary Group Exchange Team of young professionals in the field of education.
Soon after graduation from college, she married Dave Baggett, who is now retired from the Army and has pursued a new career as a Physician Assistant and graduate of Methodist University. They celebrated their fortieth wedding anniversary in 2007 by traveling to the Rotary International Convention in Salt Lake City. Magda and Dave have four sons now following their own careers who have blessed them with four grandchildren (so far!).
