District Governor Elect Wilson Ray

Wilson Ray was born in Red Springs, North Carolina on April 28, 1943 and lived there most of his early life.
Following graduation from high school in 1961, Wilson enlisted in the United States Army and served continuously on active duty for 26 years. He retired from active duty in 1987. While on active duty he served with, among others, the 1st Infantry Division in Vietnam; the 1st Armored Division in Germany and the 82nd Airborne Division at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina. He graduated from Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas and has a graduate degree in Development of Human Resources and Economics from the University of Utah.
His wife, the former Barbara (Bobbie) McArthur, was also born in the Red Springs, NC vicinity. She is a graduate of Appalachian State University in Boone, NC and is a certified North Carolina teacher. She currently works for Two-Hawk Employment Services, a temporary staffing company in Lumberton, NC. They have been married for 36 years. They have a 30 year old son who lives in Greenville, South Carolina.
Although Rotary is Wilson’s passion, he continues to enjoy golfing, gardening and fishing. He has been active in the local community serving on a number of boards and committees. He currently serves as Chairman of the Red Springs Planning Board and is an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Red Springs. He serves as Chairman of the Church Finance Committee. Bobbie is actively involved with a number of hereditary organizations which includes The Plantagenet Society; Dames of the Court of Honor; Colonial Dames XVII Century; Daughters of the American Revolution; the Daughters of 1812; and Southern Dames of America.
Wilson has been a member of the Red Springs Rotary Club for 22 years and served as that Club’s President four times. He is a Paul Harris Fellow, a Sustaining Member, and is a charter member of the District Paul Harris Society. He was the Assistant Governor for Area 6 in District 7730. He will be the sixth District Governor to come from the Red Springs Rotary Club.
